Inaugural Pre-Season Rankings Released

The first-ever edition of rankings released by the Maryland Wrestling Network is now live, in the form of the 2026-2027 High School Wrestling Rankings, Pre-Season Edition. This edition has removed all of the graduated seniors from the class of 2026 and largely leaves everyone in the weight class they competed in last season. There are also no incoming freshmen included in this first version. As we get closer to the beginning of the season and start to collect confirmed data as to which weight class

es wrestlers plan to compete in this season, we will slowly start to convert the rankings to the regular season version. If you have relevant information about school changes, weight class movements, off-season achievements, grade details, etc., please use the contact form to inform us. The more data that is provided from coaches and wrestlers, the more accurate the rankings can be. There are generally loose guidelines as to the ranking criteria, and things are ultimately decided based on group consensus among the members of the various ranking committees.

Rankings are not seedings, and while the criteria are similar, they are not identical. The eye test is a real thing. A win or loss isn't equal to another. The rankings are meant to approximate, in order, who the best wrestlers are at each class. At the end of the day, however, rankings are no more than opinions. Highly informed opinions usually, but opinions nonetheless, and ultimately they mean nothing.

We have made great efforts to include as many knowledgeable people as possible for the various divisions we are producing rankings for. None of us are omniscient, and certainly none of us have the time to do the necessary research and data mining that it would take to ensure these rankings are 100% inclusive of all results. Many coaches/organizations have a harder time getting results posted anywhere, online or otherwise, so one of the toughest challenges for groups trying to consistently produce accurate rankings in a timely manner is the access to data that may or may not be available. All of that is to say, we do the best we can with the information we have available to us.
